The Word "Arms" In The Second Amendment What Does It Mean?
The Right To Bear "Arms".
Does it only apply to "firearms" or to "all weapons in existence" (spears, swords, brass knuckles, to the latest Stealth Bomber in production)?
I want to carry a Medieval Long Sword with me, but Texas law says it is a "prohibited weapon". I believe this is unconstitutional. I believe the right to bear arms not only applies to firearms, but to swords and everything else too.
I marked your question "interesting" because you bring up a very valid point. I lived in Texas for over fifty years and always considered 'Arms' to mean a firearm, but I see your point.
I don't know of anyway to prove your point outside of getting arrested and taking your case all the way up to at least an appellate court for review.
However, please consider this strategic aspect of carrying a concealed weapon:
Concealing a weapon such as a handgun means that no one will know that you are armed. That means in a life or death situation, you gain the advantage of surprise.
Concealed weapons classes teach you that, in a potentially dangerous situation, an armed bandit will shoot anyone with another weapon first to eliminate that threat. Therefore, not displaying your weapon provides a strategic advantage.
If you are skilled with edged weapons and feel the need to carry, consider a cane sword. That allows you the cane as a blunt weapon, or the option to pull the edged weapon in a life or death situation.
