Vegetable Dyed Original
Different methods to dye leather?

I have a piece of vegetable-tanned leather, the original tan color. I need to make it a dark, almost black, purple. I went to my local Tandy leather store but the leather dye colors they had weren't quite what I wanted. What I want to know is if there is any other way to dye the leather. I was thinking either fabric dye or making a dye bath with ink.
Can anyone help me out?

I'm surprised that you did not find it at Tandy's,, they do carry Feibings dyes and they do have it in Purple. I suppose it was not the shade you were seeking? You could Mix two colors, add Black to the Purple? or whatever colors make Purple and adjust it to your liking? RED & BLUE I believe and if you add more RED it will be darker.?
