whats the easiest way to trim my cats claws without getting ripped to shreds in the process?

i have 3 cats , one who's 15yrs old and weighs 9kgs , a 3yr old who weighs 3kgs and a 1 year old who weighs 2kgs.. i've tried to bathe them and clip their claws but i always get ripped to shreds during the process, my younger cats are part persians and my old one is a british shorthair x , and i bathe them once every 2 months in special shampoo to ensure a healthy coat... im due to bathe them again but im sick of being ripped to shreds and bitten.. can anyone help please...
p.s how do you get a cat 2 stop clawing the carpet and my couch???

I talked to my cat's Vet because she's had 2 ingrown claws that have had gone into the pads in her feet - she said I really shouldn't have to clip her claws. If I provide enough things for my cat to scratch on then her claws will fall out/break off like they are supposed to. She said they like tight fabrics - stores sell lots of stuff, my suggestion is to keep trying things until you find something your cats like. Also - put blankets on the backs of your furniture - blankets you don't mind them using to scratch. Cats really need to be able to scratch often. Good Luck!
