My husband and I are building our first house. For the basement floor, we first decided on a Terra-Cotta cement stain. It's worked beautifully in other homes we've been in. But the problem here, is we have two big dogs, cats, and we also plan to have children very soon. These floors are delicate and scratch SO EASILY! It's been 3 weeks and they're just so marked up already.
We want to get carpet. We found a high quality Berber carpet with an awesome gaurantee, beautiful color, on sale, 9-10pound under pad. We wish to pursue this.
My concern, is this.
My father used to be in the building maintenance business and has seen the very worse of carpet situations.
He refuses to allow us to do the rug. He will not help us.
He told us carpet is fake, unhealthy, dangerous and FULL of germs and other disgusting things.
He says Persian rugs are the ONLY rug he will allow.
I admit they are wonderful and i love them.
But are carpets all that bad?
I have dogs and berber also, and the combination works well. Many carpets are manufactured with lots of chemicals which can be detrimental in a home environment. Persian rugs are hand woven and dyed with natural color producers (think soaking white yarn in strong tea to create a brown color) which makes them much more friendly in the home environment........which is probably what your father is thiniking of. Persian rugs can be a little pricey, but they will last a lifetime, and actually are better off with use, so if you go that route be sure to select a pattern you'll like 25 years from now. Good luck
