I live very close to Rapid Transit train rails, AND when they re-paved our street, they did a lousy job, so a sticky black residue gets dragged in on my carpet constantly. I have a RAINBOW brand vacuum (bag less - dirt is sucked in to a water basin) with the carpet cleaner attachment, and have tried SEVERAL shampoos, but only get so-so results. Can anyone recommend a GOOD carpet cleaner product OR homemade solution I can use to remove these ugly grey sticky stains? I am willing to try just about anything! My carpets are tan.
Use viniger, or you can get the safeway brand shamoo its super cheap looking but i used it about 5 years ago and its really effective. also a lot of vacuums that have carpet cleaner attachments do not produce the best results. You should consider renting one, and although it is not the answer you wanna hear sometimes substances used in construction completly ruin carpet like, asphalt, costruction chalk ect.
