Many swordplants are from the Amazon area.
Anacharis is from lots of places. (o: Elodea densa is the scientific name and it's found pretty much everywhere in temperate to tropical waters.
Hairgrass is another that makes the world its home.
Cabomba hails from Central and S. America.
Crypts come from Asia. Sri Lanka etc.
Madagascar lace plant is in the Aponogeton genus, and yes it's from you guessed it.
Ludwigia comes from North and Central America.
Stargrass comes from S. America.
A good book is "Mini Encyclopedia, Aquarium Plants" by Peter Hiscock. It covers pretty much all the basics and the common aquarium plants.
