Why do some round vintage buttons I bought have a point melted at the edge?
I just purchased an antique vase filled with vintage buttons from an estate sale. The lady who passed away was 99 years old. I sorted them, and found that some sets of the buttons have been melted to a point on the edge. These are not valuable ones, but I am curious as to why a person would do that? I thought maybe she had arthritis or something and it could make it easier to slip into a buttonhole. I don't know, but would like to find out. I have...well, thousand upon thousands of vintage and antique buttons. I have never seen this done to any of them before. Does anyone know why this was done?
For easier buttoning. The buttons are older than the previous owner. They may have belonged to her mother or grandmother.
