It takes place in China during WWII and its about the hardships of being homeless...there is an orphanage and the main characters are teens who fall in love and they live/visit orphanage. the japanese military is constantly killing and searching for victims
then the main character guy falls in love with the girl Japanese commanding officer. In the end the she kills herself to escape having to chose between China and Japan and the orphans are able to escape on a boat.
