I'm actually born in America and identify as American (hoping on becoming a police officer, joining the military, or even doing politics in the future), but instead of referring to my race as Asian I just like to say Chinese. Technically I'm a different Asian from Chinese and actually am also at least 1/3 scottish white but the deal is that there's more than one type of Asian and Chinese is the type I look the closest to more than Indian and China has the largest population among Asians I look like.
In the US, Asian has become a colloquial term for mainly East Asian/south East Asian and in my opinion to clear things up I say Chinese as my race plus I'm fascinated with China.
I am pure Cantonese Chinese, but that is my nationality, not my race. There are just three basic races. I am Mongoloid from South China and different from people of North China. Other Mongoloids include Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Thai, Native Americans, etc. The other two races are Caucasoid from Europe originally and Negroid from Africa originally. You are Eurasian from what you say.
