The best way that I can describe it is that it is a stylised oyster shell with two crossed laurel leaves on either side (they definitely aren't acanthus leaves/oak leaves/grape vine leaves). The lower third of the 'oyster shell' has a fleur de lys in it.
The property dates from 1897 - so Victorian. However, research tends to suggest that this style wasn't ornate - especially in the type of property (an upstairs flat!). Could it have been put up in the Art Deco period?
Any suggestions as to the name of the pattern would be appreciated. (I can't get a decent photo of it to post - partly because it is covered in layers of paint and we've only managed to see the detail on small sections of it).
